5 Stops for your Edinburgh Pub Crawl

Headed out in Edinburgh? Expect a diverse bar scene. The nightlife may not have the same hype as London or Barcelona, but it doesn't need to– Edinburgh is fun in its own unique way. You can enjoy craft beers in huge courtyards, then sip lavish cocktails at 19th century churches turned Frankenstein-themed bars. So, let’s talk about five places you need to stop at on your Edinburgh crawl:

The Three Sisters is often regarded as one of the best spots in the city. Located right in Cowgate, this massive venue holds multiple bars, a big courtyard, and tons of TVs. It's a high-energy place that is usually rowdy, buzzing, and always packed with young travelers. As for drinks, expect a wide variety of beers and ciders on tap, all at a reasonable price. The Three Sisters is a lively venue to enjoy one, two, or nine drinks, at any time of the day.

Frankenstein is a must-visit. This 19th-century church was converted into a buzzing three-floor bar. It’s entirely themed from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein: Gothic decor, huge Frankenstein statues, Halloween-style cocktails, and tons of spooky lighting light up this fun venue. During the day, it is a touristy pub filled with family fun. But, at night it transforms into a jumping club. Every night you can expect DJs, themed parties, and tons of students. Frankenstein is right in Old Town, so you’ll already be in the mix when stopping by.

Whistlebinkies is all about their live music … every night of the week. Whether rock, blues, or funk is playing– expect a rowdy, young crowd. They’ve got some good mixed drinks, but their huge beer list sells the best. Located by South Bridge, this spot stays open well past 3 AM. Expect a shoulder-to-shoulder party with little room to breathe, but good vibes nonetheless. Bands start playing around 10 PM and there is rarely a cover charge, so work your way over to Whistlebinkies later in your night.

Pilgrim is the perfect-pre game spot. Right next to the University of Edinburgh, this bar is always filled with student energy and great vibes. It’s quirky, vibrant decorations and out-of-the-box artwork give Pilgrim an alt feel. The pub is known for our five favorite words: cheap pints and student deals, featuring the rare and beloved €2 beer. Head to Pilgrim to start the night with a couple cheap drinks while you chat with students and make new friends.

The Pear Tree is the place to be. This huge pub is one of Edinburgh's most infamous spots. During the day, the beer garden and outdoor terrace are bumping with giant TV screens, good drink deals, and a young crowd. When the sun sets, it transforms into a wild bar with great music, unmatched vibes, and an electric atmosphere. Plus, there are always student-friendly deals. Locals would say it’s simple: When you visit Edinburgh, you head to The Pear Tree.

There is tons of fun to be had in Edinburgh. It may not be widely regarded as a party city, but once you're in the mix, you’ll quickly realize that there is so much to do. From enormous beer gardens to great live music and lively clubs, Edinburgh is always moving.
