Sahara Desert vs. Marrakech Villa Weekend: What Actually Hits Harder?

Morocco’s easily one of the most popular weekend trips for anyone studying abroad — but the real question is: do you do the full-on Sahara desert adventure or chill in a boujee villa outside Marrakech?

We’ve done both, and honestly… they couldn’t be more different. Here's how they stack up, what surprised us, and which one we’d actually do again.

1. The Sahara Desert Trip

Vibe: Off-grid, bucket list, ✨main character in a travel documentary✨

What you do:
-
Long drive through the mountains (yes, it’s a trek- like 10 hours there and back)

- Camel ride into the dunes

- Camp overnight under the stars

- Live music, campfire dinner, minimum phone service = full reset

What we didn’t expect:

-
It gets cold at night — like bring-a-jacket cold

- The drive is long but the views are ridiculous

- Sunset in the dunes is a top 3 abroad moment, no debate

Best for:
People who have 4 days to do the trip. 3 days is really hard to fit in but if your looking for  unplugging, posting a camel selfie, and do something they’ll literally never forget.

2. The Marrakech Villa Weekend

Vibe: TikTok house but make it Moroccan — chill days, wild nights, and pool pics for the feed

What you do:
-
Stay in a private villa with your group

- Have a private chef cook Moroccan breakfast

- Chill by the pool, ride camels and atvs, and experience insane waterfall hikes- then head into Marrakech for the souks or nightlife

- Optional add-ons like hammam spa, henna artists, or a DJ night

What we didn’t expect:
-
The villa was even cooler then expected

- Atvs and Camel Rides were in rocky desserts and still gave us great pictures.

- You feel the Moroccan culture heavy when heading into town.

Best for:
Groups who want something social, luxurious, and cultural- Best for groups on weekend trips

Final Verdict: Which One Hit Harder?

Honestly, they’re totally different experiences.I

f you want to unplug, explore, and feel like you're in a National Geographic reel — go Sahara.

If you're trying to keep the adventurous vibe but in an easier, more luxurious way — Marrakech is your move.

We loved both, but if you’re only doing Morocco once, think about the vibe you’re after — and FlexTrip makes booking either one super easy.
