Best Boat Days Studying Abroad in Europe, Ranked

A boat day is the thing almost every study abroad group ends up doing at least once, and it is almost always the day they talk about for the rest of the semester. So here is my ranking of the best boat days in Europe, the ones our students actually book, from the full send party boats to the ones that are just stupid pretty. Table first, then the honest take on each below it. One thing up top. The move is almost never the per person party boat ticket. It is splitting a private boat across your group, which usually comes out cheaper per head and you get the whole boat to yourselves.

SpotRatingCostBest forThe vibe
Mykonos Top pick★★★★★$$$The partyThe one everyone comes home posting.
Ibiza★★★★½$$$The partySame energy, book the Formentera crossing.
Split & Hvar★★★★½$$Island hoppingBest value here. Croatia is stupid pretty.
Dubrovnik★★★★$$Cliff jumpsBoat, cliffs, a fortress. Underrated.
Amalfi & Capri★★★★$$$The photosPrettiest, least party. Bring a camera.
Tenerife★★★½$$ChillingCalm water, whales, no big scene.
Lagos★★★½$The cavesCheapest, the sea caves are unreal.
1. Mykonos

1. Mykonos

Mykonos is number one and it is not close. This is the boat day that ends up on everyone's story. You cruise the south coast, stop off Super Paradise, jump off the back into water so clear it does not look real, and end at a beach club as the sun drops. It gets expensive fast if you do it wrong, which is the whole reason we keep a plug there. We can set the right boat and the right crew and put the card down for the group so nobody is chasing seven Venmos at 1am. If you only do one big boat day all semester, do this one.

2. Ibiza

Ibiza is basically Mykonos with a slightly harder edge and colder water. The party is unreal, but the thing that actually makes an Ibiza boat day is crossing to Formentera. The water on that crossing is the clearest you will see in the Mediterranean, full stop. Do the crossing, spend the afternoon on Formentera, come back into Ibiza for the night. Skip the cheap overcrowded booze cruises. They are a trap.

3. Split and Hvar

3. Split and Hvar

Here is the one nobody expects. Split and Hvar in Croatia is the best value boat day on this list and honestly one of the best days you can have in Europe, period. You island hop through the Pakleni islands, swim in coves that are somehow still empty, and end up at a beach club on Hvar. It costs a fraction of Mykonos and the scenery is arguably better. If your group is on any kind of budget and still wants the full boat day, this is your answer.

4. Dubrovnik

4. Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik gets slept on because everyone goes for the old town and forgets the water. The boat day here is a mix. You get cliff jumping, a stop at the Blue Cave, and a cruise past the city walls from the sea, which is the best angle of Dubrovnik there is. Pair it with an ATV day and you have a full weekend. This one is more adventure than party, and that is exactly why I like it.

5. Amalfi and Capri

5. Amalfi and Capri

If your idea of a perfect boat day is less rage and more the prettiest place you have ever seen, this is your spot. A private boat around Capri, into the grottos, anchored off a cliff for lunch. It is the most scenic day on this list and the least party, so read the room with your group. Bring an actual camera because your phone will not do it justice. It runs pricey, but split across a boat it is very doable.

6. Tenerife

6. Tenerife

Tenerife is the chill pick. Calm Atlantic water, a real shot at seeing whales and dolphins on the way out, and way less of a scene than the Greek islands. It is the one I recommend for a group that just wants to be on the water all day without the pressure of a party. Great for a mixed crew where not everyone wants to go full send.

7. Lagos

Last but genuinely worth it, Lagos in southern Portugal is the cheapest boat day here and the sea caves at Ponta da Piedade are some of the coolest natural stuff in Europe. Small boats take you right into the caves and through the rock arches. It is more natural beauty than nightlife, so do it for the day, not the party. Perfect if you are already down in Portugal for a weekend.

So which one do I book

Short version. Mykonos if you want the one everyone remembers, Croatia if you want the best value, Amalfi if you want the prettiest, Lagos if you are broke and still want something unreal. The boat is always the easy part to mess up though. Wrong crew, wrong price, half the group flaking on payment. That is the exact thing we handle. We can line up the boat and put the card down for the whole group so all you do is show up. That is literally what we do.
